These are handy when working with young horses if they do something silly that throws you off center. I used to tie baling twine around the dees so upgrading to a leather strap is nice.The color is a little darker than pictured. My saddle is Australian Nut and it (surprisingly) matched really well.Purchased this for my friend, who is an older, timid rider. Having the hand hold on the front of the saddle has given her a lot more confidence. The leather is stiff, which is what you want.
