So you learned all the bidding techniques and arrive at a optimum contract only to find that you have too many losers with straight forward play to make the contract. What do you do? Study this book! I am only 50 pages into the 230 pages and I can already tell I will be reading no studying this book more than once. As they say I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I still highly recommend Audrey grants bridge basic three book series for all the bidding techniques but this book is definitely for the detailed play of the hand especially when you have too many losers to make the contract.I didn’t really understand how to count losers for a suit contract until this book.Very well structured with practice deals and detailed explanations. When my partner is ready I need to get a copy for her. Each of the 17 sections addresses a fairly common situation a bridge player might encounter. Each section provides about 3-5 concise guidelines for the respective situation, followed by example problems with answers in the back. All of this is excellent for players who've had some experience with basic bridge terminology.I find the discusion in the main body of each chapter to be somewhat confusing. However, every book I have read on the topic of "play of the hand" has been at least somewhat confusing, so I doubt there's a better one. It's a challenging topic.I use this book by studying the guidelines (easy to understand if you have played a little bridge) and doing the exercises. This usually gives me a full understanding. I refer to the main text only if I don't understand the guidelines and exercises.I have 5 ACBL masters points, and this book is just what I need to sharpen my game.I am a beginning bridge player, so I was a bit worried that this book would be over my head, but it wasn't!! Of, course, I haven't finished reading it yet, but half-way through, I think I can tell. My main problem wasn't so much the bidding (don't get me wrong, I'n NOT an expert... but can usually get through it OK). It was the terrifying deer-in-the-headlights feeling I'd get when I was declarer upon seeing my partner's (dummy's) hand for the first time. What to do!!!!???? This book has helped incredibly in my ability to determine losers and how to make a winning plan. Wow. I would recommend it to any player that has trouble with playing and planning a hand, or just wants to practice the planning of a bridge hand.Instructive. Well written.Clearly written and examples to reinforce each concept. Quiz examples to test your understanding.I recommend this book for advanced beginners who want to improve their declarer play. The authors give simply laid out, step-by-step plans for declarer play -- exactly what's needed! They identify and count losers/winners, and many beginners have trouble with this step. I taught a class of 10 and ordered this text for all. I hope they read every page!helpful, but, for me personally, other books are better. i think different writers do appeal to different folks based on personal outlook and ways of seeing the game.An excellent resource for the player who is not really a beginner but who is not yet ready for all the ifs, buts, and howevers. Basic information, clealy presented for the declarer.I would recommend this book for someone who is starting a quest for status in ACBL and also for one who just wants to improve his skills at the social bridge tsble.I bought this CD-ROM to improve my planning of hands when playing bridge. I do tend to play too fast. And it has improved my results at my locla club.Apart from what has already been said, this CD-ROM does indeed work with Windows 10. Something no one could answer. So I'm glad I purchased it.If you are a keen bridge player, the above book is a must. Lots of detailed analysis, very Good value for money. One of the best bridge books I have ever read. What a teacher! One of the best! If only we could apply 10% of her guidelines provided in our club play, we would jump a level or two! Don't read from front to back, KEEP GOING BACK, learning and re-learning.ExcellentI found this book a good source of advice and tips on playing a bridge hand. Very good for beginners.
