This excellent CD combines two albums recorded for FIRE(1960) & PRESTIGE/BLUESVILLE(1961) by the great Texas bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins(1912-82).Tracks 1-9('Mojo Hand') were recorded in New York during November, 1960 with Hopkins(vocals, guitar, piano on track 5); Delmar Donnell(drums) & unidentified bass.Tracks 10-20('Blues In My Bottle') were recorded in Houston, Texas on July 26, 1961 with Hopkins(vocals, guitar).Track 21 was probably recorded in Houston, Texas on February 17, 1962 with Hopkins(vocals, guitar) & Spider Kilpatrick(drums).Track 22 was recorded in Houston, Texas on July 13, 1961 with Hopkins(vocals, guitar).Lightnin' Hopkins' intense guitar and heartfelt poetic lyrics are a compelling combination and this near 80-minute CD is a superb example of his early 1960s' recordings.
