Except for the 16-page gallery in the middle of the book, all of the print is in black-and-white or grayscale. That is understandable when one sees that the copyright year is 1993. I admit to being partial to books in which all of the illustrations are in color. In spite of the lack of color, the book offers several projects which piqued my interest. I like the "Knot Kakimono" for its simplicity and its Japanese flavor. I hate teapot and teacup designs, so that quilt interested me the least. I love "Peabody House" (pictured on the cover) and plan to make that one some time. On page 37 is a portrait of George Washington that I would like to make. If only that one were in color! There is a whole chapter on techniques for transferring imagery, such as shadow tracing, using a pantograph, photocopy, transfer gel, screen printing, blueprint, and opaque projector. Also shown are nine basic embroidery stitches. There is a chapter on making a light box. Several sewing machine techniques are reviewed, along with the layering and quilting process.
